A Subtle Shift
A different kind of blog this week.
It’s about my shift in direction, not the senior leaders I work with or speak to.
As ‘a subtle shift’ indicates it is not a new paradigm, but I thought I should offer some detail.
‘Multigenerational workplaces’ is the new title of the blog, with a sub-heading of ‘navigating the challenges of the multigenerational workplace with a particular lens on Gen Z’.
The intention is that this is a ‘catch all’ phrase for what I do. Let me explain.
By definition a multigenerational workplace includes Gen Z and the topics of recruitment, retention and engagement. There is a symbiotic relationship between the two sets of issues.
Everything I write about in terms of leadership challenges also fits within the broader heading of multigenerational workplaces. This includes recent blogs concerning mutual accountability, alignment, pace-setting and interdependence to name but a few.
The workplace is becoming ever more multigenerational - as people retire later and later, if at all. The list of issues to write about will continue to grow.
Future challenges for Gen Z include becoming the leaders and managers within organisations. They will no longer be the new recruits and Gen Alpha will eventually join the workplace. Those who have heard me speak will know that hundreds of thousands of Gen Z are already leading the companies they have set up. Yet, perhaps paradoxically, succession planning is an increasing problem within established organisations. There will be plenty to write about!
My email signature will still say ‘speaking coaching teams’ and my activities will still fit under these headings, but I wanted the theme to be more coherent.
In this day and age presenting as incoherent, confusing or worse is not a good idea for anyone trying to get their message across online.
The change in title does not mean that I am stopping my coaching work for senior leaders or senior leadership teams. On the contrary I am looking to do MORE of it next year. (So please get in touch!)
But in the 18 months since I started writing under the title of ‘from Frantic to Fulfilled’ much has changed.
‘from Frantic to Fulfilled’ is still the intended journey for many of my coaching clients and leadership teams, and it will remain as the title of my main programme, but it is no longer an accurate description of all I do.
My book ‘The Snowflake Myth: Explaining Gen Z to Gen X’ is coming out in September. As you might imagine it’s been a big project and I want to make the most of it and then see where I land. Given that my regular LinkedIn content will not focus specifically on the coaching and teams work as much, but in the background it is still taking place.
The speaking work has grown to the point where I am no longer able to undertake the consultancy work I built up as I grew the rest of the business. The world of education and running secondary schools feels a long time ago.
The list of industries and organisations I have worked with has also grown, and I’ve diversified beyond the original plan.
I haven’t done much in terms of video so far, but that will change in the build up to the publication of the book. Dare I say it, you will have the opportunity literally to hear from me more often.
For those who subscribe via LinkedIn it is more than a little confusing as the website URL will still have the old ‘from Frantic to Fulfilled’ title. I have no say in that one unfortunately. It is not possible to have two LinkedIn newsletters, and not desirable to reset my subscriber base to zero.
The colour of the banner will still vary if the topic is particularly specific to, for example, leadership teams, but mostly it will be the colour of this one.
In short, I hope you stick with me and find the content relevant. 😁
Please continue to get in touch and tell me of the issues you are facing - they do influence what I write about and when.
Almost everyone works within a multigenerational workplace - if the change in title inspires you to reach out and contact me about an issue which won’t go away that can only be positive.
How can I help you?
1. Talks, workshops and seminars - including managing topics relevant to the two areas above plus explaining Gen Z to Gen X and dealing with the intergenerational workplace. Speaker showreel here.
2. My book The Snowflake Myth will be published in 2025 - to receive a free chapter (when available 😬) please click here.
3. One to one coaching programmes for senior leaders who are swamped by their jobs so they can thrive in life. Click here to discover where you are on your journey from Frantic to Fulfilled? Just 5 minutes of your time and you will receive a full personalised report with guidance on your next steps.
4. Team coaching programmes - working IN a team is not the same as working AS a team and yet they are often treated as if they are the same. I help teams move from the former to the latter, and generate huge shifts in productivity and outcomes.
